During the Age of the Mistvales, Benevolence was the center of the western hemisphere, a hub of commerce and trade, overseen with an iron fist by the church of Pricipius Maximus until his exposure as a prince of hell and downfall. Converting to Ahasitari, the nation of Benevolence spread throughout the south of the continent, presiding over a millennium of peace.
A lowland coastal city, the Deluge wiped out the entire Benevolence civilization; only citizens traveling abroad in the Mistvales survived. After the waters receded, leaving thousands of miles of broken, ruined salt marsh and swamp, an ancient black dragon riddled with an abyssal fungal corruption named L’Vreth the Black settled in its ruins, further driving the area into rot and darkness. Centuries later, heroes of the Second Eidolon War slew the great black wyrm, freeing Old Benevolence from her corruption and allowing resettlement to begin.
Today, Benevolence is a city of contrast. On the western side of the Benevolence delta, where once stood the farmlands and pastures of the old city, spreads West Benevolence, an ever-growing boom-town of sailors, fishermen, merchants, and settlers looking to claim a piece of the former floodlands. Life moves fast and rough in West Ben,
A mile away on the eastern bank, the broken foundations of Old Benevolence now see new resettlement. The druids of the Circle of Circles, having built new floodwalls around the sunken foundations, work to create a pristine sanctuary city alongside the more recently resettled lunar elves. The arcane and natural magic-users, while sometimes at odds, have worked together to create a new city of towers and canals, just now in modern day beginning to reach the grandeur of the old city, albeit with much different architecture and populace.
